Emmanuel Geeurickx

Emmanuel Geeurickx was born on 25 March 1925 in Opwijk (Belgium). His father was sexton and organist at the local church and the first music teacher of Emmanuel Geeurickx. During his school days he received further lessons from Edgard De Laet (organ), Lode Van Dessel, Andre Souris, Charles Van den Borren and Antoine Auda. After his school Emmanuel Geeurickx studied at the Lemmens Institute in Mechelen and at the Brussels conservatory under Francis de Bourguignon and Jean Absil.
After his studies Emmanuel Geeurickx became the successor of his father at the church in Opwijk. Since 1956 he worked continously as a music teacher. One institution was the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, where he lectured harmony until his retirement in 1990. In 1957 he also became director of the music school in Asse. He again remained in this position until his retirement in 1990 and developed and expanded the music school to an institution with over 2000 students.
As a musicologist Emmanuel Geeurickx made research about mediaval songs with Dutch texts, and published books about harmony. He also was a great admirer of the Belgian composer August de Boeck. Emmanuel Geeurickx completed his unfinished last compositions "In the schuur" and helped to publish many of his other compositions.
Among the musical activities of Emmanuel Geeurickx composing was only in the back row. He composed masses, cantatas, piano and chamber music, but only little was published and most is forgotten nowadays.
Emmanuel Geeurickx died on 3 June 2013 in Asse (Belgium).

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the composition "Miniatuur-Concerto" for flute, violin, cello and piano op.12 by Emmanuel Geeurickx. The work is subtitled "Preludium & Fugato" and was composed in 1958. Emmanuel Geeurickx also added a motto at the top of the title page which reads "In dulci jubilo". The work remained unpublished so far and I have no information about a premiere.
