Franz Joseph Moser was born on 20 March 1880 in Vienna (Austria). He received his first musical lessons by his father and after his school days studied both philosophy (at the Vienna university) and music at the conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde. Franz Moser studied singing, piano and organ under Franz Simandl, Robert Fuchs, Ferdinand Löwe, Franz Schalk, Eusebius Mandyczewski and Hermann Graedener.
After his studies Franz Moser worked as a kapellmeister at different theatres. From 1901 to 1904 he worked in Troppau (now: Opava), Znaim (Now: Znojmo), Pilsen (now: Plzen) and Munich. In 1904 he was engaged as a double bassist for the Vienna Hofoper. In 1906 Franz Moser moved back to Munich to become repetiteur and assistant to conductor Felix Mottl at the Hofoper. In 1910 he returned to Vienna again and focused on a career as teacher. From 1910 to 1938 Franz Moser lectured singing at the university. In addition he also taught music theory at the Vienna conservatory from 1911 to 1919. Since 1919 Franz Moser was professor for piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts. From 1926 to 1929 he was choir master at the Vienna opera.
Franz Moser died on 27 March 1939 in Vienna (Austria).
