Valeriy Rutter

Valeriy Rutter (Валерий Дмитриевич Руттер) was born 21 January 1924 in Kharkov (Ukraine). He first studied music at the conservatory in Kharkov, but had to evacuate to Saint Petersburg in 1941 due to the war activities. There he continued and finished his studies. Later he became one of the finest and most renowned opera conductors of the USSR. He premiered operas by Vladislav Uspensky, Georgy Sviridov, Alexander Kholminov, Kirill Molchanov, Georgi Muschel or Gaziza Zhubanova. Valeriy Rutter is also well known for his transcriptions and arrangements of several compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich. The two musicians knew each other since their time at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. In 1997 Valeriy Rutter and his family emigrated to Germany. He died on 25 September 2010 in Leipzig (Germany).

The composer Bazarbai Dzhumaniyazov (Базарбай Сагадиевич Джуманиязов) was born 1936 and died 2015. He was one of the most important Kazakh composers. His opera "Makhambet" was composed in 1986 and Valeriy Rutter conducted the premiere performance of the work. From this opera Valeriy Rutter arranged a Romance and Dance for violin and piano.

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the "Romance and dance for violin and piano on themes from the opera "Makhambet" by Bazarbai Dzhumaniyazov".
