Tor Aulin: Violin concerto No. 2 (revised version)
This site presents my effect on the world premiere of the revised version of the "Concerto for violin and orchestra No.2" (1892) by Tor Aulin (1866-1914).
Please let me give you a small introduction why the performance of the Aulin concerto has an outstanding importance to me.
The starting point of my now quite large publishing project were violin concertos. I have a soft spot for violin concertos of the 20th century and my first activities just circled around this genre: I compiled and published an encyclopedia about the repertoire for the violin concertante, and after managing to get my hands on autograph manuscripts I started to publish scores of violin concertos. My first idea was to completely focus on violin concertos, but this was an unsustainable limitation and so over the years my portfolio of compositions widened to all sorts of instrumental settings. But the violin concerto has naturally still a special place in my heart. This is also obvious in the number of presented scores of violin concertos: More than 80 works for violin and orchestra can be found on my website and are presented here for the first time!
And I am publishing scores because I would like to see that these works come alive on stage. So a performance is the highest possible fulfillment of my wishes. And a performance of a violin concerto beats everything! And the Tor Aulin concerto is the first violin concerto published by me that found its way onto stage which is the reason for my enthusiasm about this story:
In 2019 I bought the manuscript of a full score of the Violin concerto No.2 by Tor Aulin. The manuscript contained dozens of corrections and additions and I came to the conclusion that this must be a revised version of the concerto, done by Tor Aulin himself. (For a more detailed description please read on the Tor Aulin subpage
here.) I then typeset the manuscript and published it the same year.
Three years later the Swedish violinist and composer Fritiof Palm contacted me. He was interested in performing the work and already had an orchestra at hand to perform with! That was obviously fantastic news, but a lot had to be done before the work could go on stage. Fortunately Fritiof Palm put a lot of time and effort into this project and created a new edition of the full score (correcting more than 200 smaller errors), orchestral parts and also a new version with only 2 horns instead of 4. Fritiof Palm published his edited score via the scorico website and there it can be downloaded for a small charge:

The world premiere of the revised version of the Violin concerto No.2 by Tor Aulin then happened on 19 November 2022 at the Järfälla kulturscen. Performers were Fritiof Palm (violin), the Järfälla Symfoniorkester under Gunnar Julin (conductor).
