Richard Arnheim

Richard Arnheim was born on 18 February 1869 in Seesen am Harz (Germany). He studied medicine and finished his studies with a doctoral thesis on respiration in 1894. Beside that Richard Arnheim also studied music under Wilhelm Klatte.

There is virtually no information about the life and work of Richard Arnheim only a handful of reviews of his compositions, all performed around 1918. Due to the fact that Richard Arnheim composed only very few works it seems likely that he made a living from being a doctor and composed music only part-time. Richard Arnheim died on 2 April 1949 in Berlin (Germany).

Among the known compositions by Richard Arnheim are a Violin concerto "Nachtphantasie" op.17 (1919, premiered in May 1919 by Gertrud Steiner-Rothstein, violin), the cantata "Lied der Armen" for choir, solo and orchestra (1917), Two songs (Lass ab! & Nocturne, published by Bote & Bock in 1914) and a piano trio A major op.3. 

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the song "Trinklied" (drinking song) by Richard Arnheim. The manuscript has an handwritten dedication by Richard Arnheim to someone unknown and is dated 27 June 1903.
