Harrend Vlag

Harrend Vlag was born 1913 in Gouda (Netherlands). He studied clarinet at the Conservatory in Den Haag and became solo clarinetist at the Arnhemsche Orkest Vereeniging and later bass clarinetist at the Residentie Orkest in Den Haag. He was also the founder of the "Bilthovense Muziekweek" in 1947 together with Jaap Geraedts, Jurriaan Andriessen, Henk Stam, Sas Bunge and Thierry van Driest. Harrend Vlag died on 19 July 1994 in Delft (Netherlands).

Harrend Vlag also composed music and is famous for his "Bulgarian" compositions. His "Bulgaarsche Suite" was composed in 1950 and was co-awarded the first prize of the new music festival "Dag in de Branding" in 1950 (together with Ton de Leeuw's "Sonatine for piano").

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of this "Bulgaarsche Suite for violin and viola". The score was published by Donemus and is still available through their website.
