Anton Schoendlinger

Anton Schoendlinger was born on 12 November 1919 in Bačko Novo Selo (Serbia). He studied music at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Lepzig from 1946 to 1950 and student in the masterclass of Hanns Eisler at the Deutsche Akademie der Künste until 1952. After his studies he first worked as a lector for the music publisher C.F. Peters in Leipzig, but already in 1955 he moved to East Berlin to work as a composer. Between 1965 and 1973 Anton Schoendlinger was music lector at the radio broadcasting company of the GDR, since 1969 he lectured at the Hochschule der Musik "Hanns Eisler". In 1973 he had to quit his work for the civil services due to political discrimination and again worked as a freelance composer. In 1983 he received the permsssion to leave the GDR and moved to Herbrechtingen (West Germany). Anton Schoendlinger died on 16 August 1983 in Giengen an der Brenz (Germany).

Anton Schoendlinger's work catalogue contains an opera "Faust und Helena", an opera comique "Die Vögel", 6 symphonies, concertos for flute, trumpet, piano, violin, cembalo and 7 concertos for organ, many orchestral works, chamber music like a piano quartet, several sonatas for different instrumentations (among them are 4 violin sonatas), 5 string quartets, solo works for piano and for organ as well as songs and choral compositions.

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the Symphony No.3. The work was composed in 1965. My manuscript is the fair copy of the final version, the working score is archived at the "Akademie der Künste" in Berlin, who hold most of Anton Schoendlinger's compositions.
