Lucien Poujade

Lucien Poujade was born on 3 March 1847 in Millau (France). He studied at the Marseille conservatory and won a first prize for his violin playing. After his studies Lucien Poujade focused on a career as a conductor and composer. He became conductor at the Theatre des Bouffes-Parisiens, where he conducted also an own operetta, at the Theatre de l'Athenee-Comique and the Folies Bergere. In 1889 he founded the "Concert-Favart" on the destroyed ground of the Opera-Comique which became a huge flop.

As a composer Lucien Poujade is best remembered for his stage works. Among his work catalogue are at least 9 operettas, 4 ballets and 2 incidental musics which all were performed. In addition he also composed songs and instrumental music.

Lucien Poujade died on 12 April 1914 in Courbevoie (France).

In my possession is the autograph manuscript of the song "Par la mousse et le thym" for voice and piano by Lucien Poujade. The song sets a poem by Gabriel Montoya to music. The work is dedicated to Suzanne Dariel and was published by Gruny & Dorey in 1899.
