Trill, Gerhard

Gerhard Trill

Gerhard Trill was a German violinist in the first half of the 20th century. Curiously there is virtually no biographical information available about him. This is what I can say:

The newspaper "Hallische Nachrichten" reports on 8 October 1926 that Gerhard Trill performed the octet "Dem Lande meiner Kindheit" by Waldemar von Baußnern at the conference of the "Reichsverband Deutscher Tonkünstler und Musiklehrer" (State union of German composers and music teachers).

In my possession is a composition by Gerhard Trill that dates from December 1943 and that is dedicated to the opera singer Franz Völker. This manuscript came from a small collection of documents from the estate of Georg Völker, the son of Franz Völker. The manuscript also mentions the address of Gerhard Trill in 1943: Prinz-Louis-Ferdinand-Straße 5 in Berlin. All this makes it likely that the Trill manuscript was previously in possession of Franz Völker and that the two knew each other (Franz Völker lived in Berlin in 1943).

So Gerhard Trill was born very likely around 1880-1890 and died around 1950-1960.

In my possession is the autograph manuscript "Heimatständchen 'trautes" for voice and piano by Gerhard Trill. The work was composed in 1943 and Gerhard Trill wrote both text and music for the song. The manuscript is dedicated to the renowned German tenor Franz Völker (1899-1965).
