Heinz Jahr

Heinz Jahr was born 18 June 1919 in Berlin. He first studied music at the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory, later at the Stern Conservatory. The World War II interrupted his studies and he served his time in the military band. After the war Heinz Jahr worked as a Theaterkapellmeister for a few years and continued his compositional studies with Max Trapp and Max Butting. Since 1950 Heinz Jahr was music editor at several German radio stations (Berliner Rundfunk, WDR, Deutsche Welle). In his last years he moved to Timmendorfer Strand where he died in 2002.

Heinz Jahr composed music for different genres. Among his compositions are more serious works for symphony orchestra, concert pieces for violin and for cello, an oratorio "Die Perser", but also music for radio plays, jingles, light music for bands, songs and folklike compositions. In 1960 and 1961 Heinz Jahr was awarded the first prize for documentary films and corporate movies by Roto-Film.

The "Rondo capriccioso for violin and orchestra" was composed in 1954 and premiered the same year. The work lasts around 6 minutes.
